VIRTUAL TRIP
Favelas, Rio De Janeiro
From this ENBE virtual visit to Favelas, Rio De Janeiro, I have learned many things and one of them is the importance of having an organized city which supposed to be run by a formal government. On the other hand, this city is overwhelmed with rural Brazilians who are not affordable for housing and started building their own communities. According to the video, we notice that the buildings in the city are very close to each other making the city looks dense and compact. Here comes the bad and good part, people living in this city are very creative as we can see their style of building and their street arts.
In contrast, the bad part will be the safety of people staying in this city. Why do I say so, it is because the city ROCINHA is not controlled by the local government. The reason is the city is made up of very close and dense buildings, the pathways and streets are very narrow which is a huge problem to let local police to access through the streets thus there are many drug activities going on out there. Perhaps, the most powerful drug gang in Rio is called the Red Command. It is used to be much more violent in this city and even be one of the scenes in those video shooting games.

Moreover, the built environment has a big impact on the society who is living in that place. For instance, the quality of living environment depends on the quality of air, water and basic infrastructures. Hence, architects play a big role in city development. Architects must be able to plan out the city with reasonable space management. The local community should look for a professional architect to plan out the city so that it is easier to access along the streets and with sufficient basic infrastructure to make the local community live in a more convenient way.
