ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN 3
Assignment 3 PROJECT 2B: THE DISCOVERY CENTRE (VISITOR CENTRE FOR KAMPUNG MORTEN & MALACCA)
For the final individual assignment in Architectural Design III, students will create a Discovery Center in Kampung Morten, Malacca. This structure should enable users to uncover various aspects of the locale, including its people, places, culture, and history. Serving as a Visitor Center, the design must integrate interpretive exhibits and "edutainment" facilities, requiring a poetic architectural touch. This project builds on previous group efforts, now demanding a personal architectural response that harmonizes with the site's genius loci, supported by thorough analysis and a clear narrative thread.
REFLECTION
For the final assignment in "Discovery Center" design, individual application of "Discipline Specific Knowledge" was paramount as we tailored our design to the nuances of Kampung Morten. Embracing "Thinking and Problem Solving Skills," I crafted a design that not only addressed functional requirements but also resonated with the site's cultural fabric. "Communication Skills" were tested as I presented my interpretation of the site's genius loci, requiring precise and engaging conveyance of concepts. This culminated in a refined understanding and application of architectural principles in a solo context.
